PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Welcome, and thank you for your interest in the Wisconsin Society of Medical Assistants (WSMA)!
Medical assistants play a vital role in healthcare by providing quality patient care, educating patients and their support systems, and serving as advocates within the healthcare team. The medical assisting profession offers countless opportunities for growth, leadership, and professional development.
The WSMA is proud to provide affordable continuing education opportunities for AAMA members through our Spring and Fall CEU sessions, as well as our annual conference held in locations throughout Wisconsin. These events offer valuable education, networking opportunities, and the chance to connect with fellow medical assistants who are dedicated to advancing our profession.
My involvement with WSMA has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career. Through serving alongside passionate and dedicated professionals, I have developed leadership skills, strengthened my communication abilities, and built lasting professional relationships. I encourage every member to become involved at the local, state, or national level.
Each year, the incoming WSMA President selects a community outreach initiative for the society to support. This year, I have chosen to partner with Hand to Hold, an organization that provides support and resources to families before, during, and after NICU stays.
As a NICU parent, I understand firsthand the challenges and uncertainties families face during this journey. Hand to Hold provided invaluable support to my family during a difficult time, and I am honored to help raise awareness for the services they provide. I am also deeply grateful to the dedicated NICU teams at Aurora BayCare Medical Center and Aspirus Wausau Hospital for the exceptional care and compassion they showed our family. The way both systems cheered on each one of those little warriors and took care of them like they were one of their own is an experience I hope no one must know, but if you do those are the people you want in your corner.
Together with Hand to Hold, WSMA will be providing New NICU Parent Bags at Aurora BayCare Medical Center in Green Bay and Aspirus Wausau Hospital. These bags will contain essential items, educational resources, and support information to help families navigate their NICU experience. Donation collection tables will be available at our conferences, and those wishing to make a monetary contribution may do so through Hand to Hold's donation page.
Thank you for visiting our website. Whether you are a student, a new medical assistant, or an experienced professional, I encourage you to become involved with WSMA. I look forward to seeing you at one of our upcoming CEU sessions or conferences as we continue to support one another, strengthen our profession, and serve our communities.

Scholarships
Congratulations to our 2022-2023 Memorial Scholarship winners! Braeley Pettigrew is a young woman from Bryant & Stratton College who shows dedication and enthusiasm. Braeley's instructors also praise her on her attentiveness to details and eagerness to learn. Not only is she a great student and role model to other medical assistant students, she is a mother of two, volunteers as a parent ambassador at her son's school, and is a strong advocate for the RADD (recreational advocates for developmental disability) program. Braeley has such a beaming personality and shows so much dedication to the medical assistant profession already. We cannot wait to see her name as an active member on the WSMA and volunteer on our committees. Braeley was able to accept her award in person at our 2024 WSMA Annual Conference Awards Luncheon.
Mary Bixby is a dedicated student at Madison College who displays exemplary writing and verbal communication skills. Mary's instructors have no doubt she will be a successful medical assistant and serve her community well. Her goal in the medical assistant profession is providing care by assisting in the rehabilitation of introducing imprisoned people back into society. This requires such patience and strength. Her passion is helping patients succeed and providing the best tools and resources and it shows strongly in her volunteer efforts. The WSMA is proud to present her with this scholarship and cannot wait to see what trails she will blaze in the future.
Again, congratulations to these strong individuals. We had 3 other exemplary candidates that applied. It was a very close vote and wish we had the opportunity to present all applicants as winners. We can see what the future medical assistants look like and they all shine. Keep it up!
The WSMA is so proud of each and every one of you. Best of luck on your success! If you or know a current medical assistant student who would be a great recipient of the Memorial Scholarship, please complete an application. Each applicant is presented with a check in the amount of $1,500. Applications are due February 15, 2025.
